Things to see and do on Kos: One historic place to visit on Kos is the Castle of the Knights of St John. It is roughly 3.5km from of the Kos town and overlooks it. it was built so that the occupying Knights of St John could keep watch over the harbour. The Knights occupied the island for 200 years with construction of the castle beginning in the 1300s. The castle consists of two parts, and interior and exterior part, separated by a moat. In addition to visiting the castle, a student of history may also want to look at the various museums available on Kos where they can view the many relics and sculptures left over from ancient Greece (more info on Kos Museums). There is also a Foldlore Museum that celebrates the heritage and culture of the Koans. Money Saving Tip #6 Use Travelex.com to get the best rates on your currency (better than the Post Office!). Hotels and nightlife on Kos: Despite the fact that the island is only 40km long and 8km wide Kos has hundreds of hotels from which the visitor can choose. There is a wide variety of qualities and costs of lodging to suit all tastes. Costs of hotel stays (more info on Best Hotels in Kos) on Kos can range from as little as £14 ($22/€16) to more than £200 ($319/€228). Other interesting things about Kos: The beaches of Kos (See Best Beaches in Kos) are the main reasons many tourists visit the island so these are often crowded. Visitors who do not like crowded beaches may want to focus on the archaeological sites or try one of the excusrsions to neighboring Dodecanese islands. Kos does have a reliable bus service so seeing the island by bus is not unfeasible. Money Saving Tip #2 Book your hotel through Booking.com and get the lowest rate for your hotel..guaranteed! Another good way is to cycle. Viewing the island by bicycle is a popular way for tourists.
