The island is only about 25 miles long and 5 miles wide, so it will not be too much of a stretch in attemtping to see all the island has to offer. (See Kos Visitors Guide) Local buses are the primary choice of the locals in order to get around. These buses link the visitor to all the major hotels and the airport. They typically depart every couple of hours. One can catch a bus to get from the airport to their hotel, and then to other regions around the island. The buses run as late as 19:40 and also have runs on Saturdays with limited service on Sunday. Money Saving Tip #6 Use Travelex.com to get the best rates on your currency (better than the Post Office!). If the tourist wishes to do sightseeing somewhere other than where they are staying, there is no need to worry. Taxis run everyday throughout the island. The average cost of the taxi from one extremity to the other on the island typically does not exceed £30 ($49/€35). In the town of Kos the average fare is about £4($7/€5), unless a tavern or a shopkeeper calls the taxi for you, then one will need to add about £2.6 ($4/€3) to £4($7/€5) to the final cost (more info on Car Hire in Kos). The tourist should have no problem acquiring a taxi anywhere on the island. If in the smaller villages just ask a local for a taxi. The majority of the villagers know who the taxi drivers are and can lead you in the right direction. When the fares arre broken down they average about £1 ($1.67/€1.2) per kilometer. (See Kos Rentals for cheap car hire) If looking to explore other islands other than Kos, there are ferries that can get the tourist to and fro. The adventure will be worth the time, and the ferry ride will be a blast, especially if travelling with small children. Simply ask your travel agent or the attendant at the desk of your hotel and they can set you up with a tour or just a ferry ride from one place to another. The rates are quite affordable, and the experience will enhance the holiday stay (more info on Best Places to Stay in Kos). Money Saving Tip #2 Book your hotel through Booking.com and get the lowest rate for your hotel..guaranteed! Kos is a perfect place to spend a holiday, if the above public transportation options are not what the traveller is looking for, one can also hire a car for the extent of their stay.
